AWDA 2
AIAP WOMEN IN DESIGN AWARD
curated by Cinzia Ferrara, Laura Moretti, Daniela Piscitelli
Aiap Women in Design Award is an ambitious project which develops a line of research that was started several years ago with the aim of investigating the various expressions of graphic design, by reconstructing those fragments that tell the uninterrupted, past and present history of visual communication design. The idea is to avoid focusing on isolated aspects, but rather to reconstruct those socio-economic contexts in which women designers work and develop their expressive languages to translate invisible contents into visual communication through their design.
Aiap Women in Design Award explores, from many different perspectives, the sphere of graphic design in which women students, researchers, teachers, professionals, work, that is to say the women who have given and still give remarkable, different contributions to the discipline, covering all the stages of professional life – from education to the building of a career, from research to teaching, to experimentation.
The second edition of Aiap Women in Design Award targets the complex, multifaceted geographical area of Europe and the MENA countries, often looking to faraway areas and difficult settings, where women are often denied their human, not only professional, rights. An award like AWDA is certainly not able to transform these realities culturally, yet can be a powerful spotlight on critical issues as well as an instrument to explore and spread the culture of women’s graphic design.
